About Karan Mehra

Karan Mehra was the kind of person who made everyone around him feel like the best version of themselves.

From Nainital — the hill town that shaped him — Karan carried a quiet warmth wherever he went. He listened generously, laughed easily, and treated the people around him — colleagues, strangers, kids he'd just met — with the same open-hearted kindness. Karan didn't just believe everything is possible. He made you believe it about yourself.

Karan's Scholars exists because that energy doesn't have to end with him. Every child who receives one of these grants carries forward a piece of what Karan gave so freely: the unshakable feeling that someone, somewhere, is in your corner.

01

Nominations open each September

From September through October, we work with established orphanages, schools, and community organizations in and around Chandigarh — along with trusted people who knew Karan and Manu — to identify students who need support most.

02

Cohort selected and grants given in November and December

A small group of scholars is chosen once per year, with grants given in November and December — giving families and schools the full year ahead with funding locked in. Quality over quantity. Depth of support over breadth.

The work begins

Funding, mentorship, and follow-through. Year after year. That's the promise.

A note from Karan's brother

"He was a star that will shine brightly forever."

Karan was just two years older than me, and growing up with him was a blessing. Since childhood, he was incredibly calm, gentle, and sharp-minded. Like any brothers, we fought a lot as kids — but the truth is, we couldn't spend a single day without each other.

We went to the same school, where he was brilliant in his studies and loved by all his teachers. I remember teachers always telling me, "Look at your brother and learn something from him." He set that kind of example. As he grew, so did his maturity and sense of responsibility.

After college, he got his very first job at Big Happy — a huge milestone for him. Even when he moved away from home to Chandigarh for work, his heart always remained with the family. He never missed a single day without calling our mother. He worried about everyone's well-being and always put our happiness before his own, making sure none of us ever faced any lack.

Karan was a huge cricket enthusiast. But above all, he was a loving brother and son. From the youngest children in the family to the elders, he was everyone's absolute favorite. He carried all our responsibilities with a smile. We never, even in our worst nightmares, thought he would leave us so soon. He is missed deeply every single day.

He never did any wrong to anyone in his entire life, nor did he ever wish ill upon anybody. To us, he wasn't just a brother or a son — he was a star that will shine brightly forever.
